About Us

NOW condemns the racism that inflicts a double burden of race and sex discrimination on women of color.  We are committed to identifying and fighting against those barriers to equality and justice that are imposed by racism.

Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.— The Equal Right Amendment

NOW is launching the “Unlock the Future” campaign with a series of rallies and issuing a Bill of Rights for women and girls in detention prisons that will be delivered to top-level government officials.

Join us for a viewing of the documentary “Connie Cook,” on March 5, 2023!

As one of only three women in the New York State Assembly in the 1960s and 70s, Connie Cook led extraordinary efforts — against the odds — to create change within a male-dominated government. As a Republican Assemblywoman for New York’s 125th District, she sought equality and fought for women’s rights. She authored legislation in 1970 that decriminalized abortion in New York State, which paved the way for Roe Vs. Wade in 1973.

Connie Cook — pilot, legislator, advocate and attorney — was indeed a woman ahead of her time. This interview-driven documentary chronicles her life, her contributions to politics, and her fight for women’s rights. Many changes in American life came about because of Connie’s drive, determination, and humanitarianism. Her work inspired many, and her story inspires us all.

The film was made by Sue Perlgut and Nils Hoover.

Please join us for a showing of this documentary on SUNDAY, MARCH 5, 2023 AT 3 PM – 5 PM at the Auburn Public Theatre, 8 Exchange Street, Auburn, NY.

The event is free and open to the public. A talk back with filmmakers and bar service will follow the event.
