MEDIA ALERT
July 17, 2023
UPDATE
(Seneca Falls, NY.) Women March in Seneca Falls 2023 (WMinSF), in conjunction with Kate Kelly and The ERA Centennial Convention Committee, enthusiastically announces their upcoming ERA Rally & March, Friday, July 21, 2023, Seneca Falls, NY.
The public is invited to join organizers, dignitaries, and rally speakers convening at 5pm on First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls front lawn, 23 Cayuga Street, in support of the EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT to the US Constitution as Amendment XXVIII.
It’s been exactly 100 years since the ERA was publicly introduced at the 75th Anniversary of the First Women’s Rights Convention by activist Alice Paul, who with Crystal Eastman wrote, promoted and introduced the Equal Rights Amendment in Congress in 1923. Alice Paul made her 1923 ERA speech from the podium of First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls. A wall-sized iconic photo of attendees to the 1923 Convention is proudly ensconced in the church sanctuary, as is the historic rostrum from which Alice Paul addressed those gathered one century ago. The rostrum remains in use to this day for services led by pastor, The Reverend Leah Ntuala.
Supporters are encouraged to arrive early to the front lawn of First Presbyterian Church for re-enactment of the 1923 Women’s Rights Convention group photo. Susan Scheuerman, WMinSF lead organizer said, “We lament that it’s been 100 years since the ERA was introduced in the US and STILL we wait for women’s equality as provided by the US Constitution.” The march to Academy Square and ERA rally immediately follow the photo-op.
Confirmed rally speakers to-date include: NYS Attorney General Letitia James; US Congresswoman Rep Cori Bush (MO); Anne Fuller, Granddaughter of Crystal Eastman; Coline Jenkins, Great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton; Kate Kelly, 2023 ERA Convention Lead Organizer & Author/Ordinary Equality; Pooja Dharma/Generation Ratify; Julie C Suk, Author/We the Women & After Misogyny; Alyssa Hunt & Rachel Rupisan, Alice Paul Institute; Eleanor Smeal, Feminist Majority; Zakiya Thomas, ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality; Carolyn Maloney & Christian Nunes, NYS & National NOW; Ana Dobrot, Co-author/2020 Youth Declaration of Sentiments.
